We are currently recruiting on behalf of a well-established and growing manufacturing business for a skilled Manual Lathe Machinist to join their production team.
This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on engineer with a strong machining background to work in a stable, supportive environment producing high-quality precision components for a range of industries.
The Role
You will be responsible for machining precision components using manual lathes, primarily working with metal and plastic materials. The role requires a strong understanding of engineering principles and the ability to produce accurate, high-quality parts to specification.
Key duties include:
- Operating manual lathes to manufacture precision components
- Reading and interpreting technical drawings, blueprints, CAD models, and specifications
- Setting up and adjusting machines to ensure accuracy and safety standards
- Using hand tools, power tools, and equipment for grinding, milling, and assembly tasks
- Carrying out quality inspections using measuring equipment such as micrometers and verniers
- Performing basic calculations relating to tolerances, dimensions, and materials
- Maintaining a clean, safe, and organised workshop environment
What We’re Looking For
- Proven experience operating manual lathes
- Strong machining background (turning, grinding, milling, assembly)
- Good mechanical understanding of tooling and fixtures
- Ability to read engineering drawings confidently
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Good problem-solving skills and a proactive attitude
- Able to work independently and as part of a team
